Ebooks

Ok

Downloading ebooks. I just started getting into this. I usually download hard to find or out of print books. Most of the ones I download are under 300 pages. I can read these in one sitting.
I just like having the feel of the book in my hand and sitting in front of a screen reading over 300 pages is not fun. So the main stream, books I still buy.

Does any one else download ebooks? I know next to nothing about readers for ebooks, currently using adobe and my laptop. Are palm pilots a good choice for this or are the special made readers better. Do they accept adobe? How long will they stay powered on?
How hard is it to read on smaller screen? Plz add you two cents or opinions.

I need to downsize our library, and yes it is a library at this point. (When you get rid of over 200 books and do not put a dent in the collection, you have a library.) I occasionally go to the public libraries, but most of what I want to read is unavailable or on a long list. Besides I collect books at this point- LOL. Lots of first editions. The one thing I know is that I want to keep the ebooks that I download and start having an ebook library.

I have been downloading from Fictionwise http://www.fictionwise.com/.
I have not hard any trouble with them as far as downloads. Their rating system is not so good though. I like the way you can brose in the book stores. Know of any web sites that make it that easy?

HMMM, Sandy, I regret that I can't follow you on this one...I've read maybe one ebook. It's just not my medium, I prefer to have the book in my grubby little hands to feel the pages and smell its musky scent. Plus, books never run out of batters or need a recharge LMAO, so no need to worry there.

I can say that, on a car trip to Boston, to visit my alma mater and see me father, I had the chance to listen to Star Wars Episode 3. Let me tell you, it was the most animated trip I've ever been on, and my husband and I hada great deal to think about. The cd actually gave us a great deal to discuss. BUT, we were both really disappointed with the movie when it came out a week or two later. It was nowhere near as deescriptive.

Maybe you can spawn that topic Sandy--movies that are total disappointments LMAO. Episode 3 just didn't cut it for me, alas.~~Maia

I downloaded afew ebooks, cant stand reading it on computer. My suggest is to download short stories and read them...actually i read Phillip Pullmans: His Dark Materials on computer....WHAT A WASTE. gawd i hated that book, that guy is so pretensious. I know, you probably like it, I just think Neon Genesis Evangelion OWNS His dark materials.

Literature is surprisingly cheap nowadays, i got a collection of 4,000 classic stories on one CD but cant read one because its near impossilbe on computer. Gotta have that book in your hand. If your broke go to library. But yeah, libraries dont have the books you want, i know that feeling!

"oh do you have that new book....."

BIG RED BUZZER NOISE.

you know libraries wont get it in for ages, dispite the fact next door for $40,00 you can buy a hardcopy =P =P.
