Books that would be a great movie.David Weber's Honor Harrington series fits this to a T. Heck, They could do a miniseries.
Perfect for Hollywood too. Political, Military, Lots of action, In space ( imagine the space fights- they can blow lots of things up) and strong characters that you just love and do not forget the drama.
See, no reason why they can not do it. I think we are advanced enough to pull it off. The cost might be high though. Heck go anime if they have too (ooh another topic).
Robin McKinley's Blue sword and The Hero and the Crown. I loved these as a child/teen and pull them out every so often. It can be done, no problem there. I rank this up there with Tolkien, and C.S. Lewis.
Would be perfect for a Disney movie, mature 12/13.
And speaking of Tolkien "The Hobbit". We know it can be done. LOL
Just plz. plz, I beg, allow it to be done and by Peter Jackson.
That's a good start for now.

Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa would make a FANTASTIC movie.
Please Hollywood a GOOD Arthur C Clarke book, even his non-fiction ones own.
The French Lieutenants Woman by John Fowles...plzplzplzplz.
A short story that doesnt involve period costumes, doubt they can do Chekov BUT they should try Katherine Mansfields hilarious story: The Daughters of the Late Colonel.
A novel called: Regeneration by Kat? barker, i forget her first name, its the story of Seigfried Sasson the famous poet and kick-arse warrior from World War One, its a true story of how he befriended Wilfred Owen at at mental asylum (Wilfred Owen being probably a more famous poet) He helps wilfred write his poems and give him encouragment...however the horrors of war are all around as men who have become unhinged are treated to electro-shock therapy, plastic beds etc etc...tougues pulled in order to get them to speak, its barbaric way to treat those young boys who were in hell. The novel detials Sassons time in World War One and he was a bloodly legend. He wanted to war to stop and was going to object being sent back, but couldnt stand the thought of his mates being one their own. Ill take him for a Aussie anyday! Sasson is one of my favourite poets.
I knew a simple soilder boy,
you grinned in life with empty joy,
slept soundly in the lonesome dark,
and whislted early with the lark.
In winter trenches cowed and glum,
with crumps and lice and lack of rum,
he put a bullet through his brain,
no-one spoke of him again.
You smug faced crowds
with kindling eyes,
who cheer when solider lads march by
sneak home and pray you'll never know
the hell where youth and laughter go.
